Mount Washington Cog Railway – New Hampshire

This railway has been transporting passengers along this three-mile route for over 150 years via replica coaches. The summit is a staggering 6,288 feet high and you can see breathtaking hues of the national forest from up there. This stretch of the trip is said to be one of the steepest railroad tracks in the country. If the day is clear is you can even see Canada and Maine from the summit.

Reading Blue Mountain and Northern – Pennsylvania

Board a 1920s steam locomotive and take a train ride from Reading to Jim Thorpe in Pennsylvania, and take in the magnificent views of the Pocono Mountains. Every weekend throughout the month of October, as well as the first weekend of November, the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern railroad, offer weekend round-trips over this 120-mile route.
