Why you should visit these animal cafés

They have been around for about 20 years, but only recently has their popularity risen dramatically. The first cat café was introduced to the public in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei, but people seemed a bit skeptical of the idea. Thankfully many years later the public started to warm up to the idea of sharing delicious treats with a furry friend. Over the past decade, animal cafes have popped up all over the world, and here are some you can visit too.

Romeow Cat Bistrot, Rome, Italy

Romeow is a lovely vegan restaurant located in the beautiful city of Rome. Romeow’s doors opened in 2014 when the Italian locals were still hesitant to embrace the concept. But with the help of six adorable rescue cats, the owners were able to pull off the idea and have made the restaurant into a popular destination to enjoy some time with a few furry friends.

Zoo Café, Budapest, Hungary

Located in the heart of Budapest, this unusual animal café was first opened in 2014. The idea of this café was to offer a place for families on a busy schedule the opportunity to come and experience a variety of pets while enjoying a drink or meal. The animals at Zoo Café are extraordinary and include bearded dragons, snakes, spiders, hedgehogs, rabbits, cats, birds, and fish.

TrueLove Café, Bangkok, Thailand

When in Thailand, get down to the TrueLove café for some tasty ice cream and some playtime with a bunch of fluffy huskies. This very popular destination sells out daily, so make sure you go early so you don’t miss out on all the love the huskies have to share.

Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, London, UK

This intriguing cat café features cat-friendly décor based on the classic English tea room. These fancy little resident kitties belong to London’s first cat café. Have a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake in this two-story coffee shop with their resident cats playing about.

Thanks Nature Café, Seoul, South Korea

In 2011, the first sheep themed café opened its doors in the bustling South Korean city of Seoul. Featuring two fluffy white sheep brought in from the owner’s farm. Due to the sheep having exceptionally thick fur, you will only get the chance to play with them during the winter months as they are unable to withstand the summer heats.

Owl Café, Moscow, Russia

This owl themed anti-café style restaurant consists of six domesticated owls, each with their own unique character traits that may allow you to meet, feed, and even stroke depending on their mood that day. The anti-café is a Russian invented café that charges based on time spent in the café and not per items ordered, so be careful as spending too much time with these fascinating birds may end up costing more than you hoped for.

Rabbit Café, Tokyo, Japan

Being the home of the animal cafés, we couldn’t exclude Japan from the list. The rabbit café in Tokyo is home to more than 30 different breeds of delightful rabbits that make the experience of feeding and playing with these adorable bunnies worth the visit.

It has been said that enjoying a hot cup of coffee while in the company of cute pets is good for your health. Don’t just take our word for it, go and experience one of these animal cafes for yourself.
